CHAPTER XIX – Drudgek Barbarians
As Chi and Ren return to the camp, the singing and dancing was slowly coming to a climax…
When the music stopped, the dark haired Gypsy girl approached Kinner, “It’s time for you to meet WINDOR.”
With this she took his arm, and moved him towards the wagon…
…from the back of wagon stepped the robed Kenku, Windor.
The Gypsies cheered lightly, then quieted.
Chi looked over at Ren who was watching intently.
“Mordela says you have a gift…” speaks Windor, his voice sounding part bird.
“A gift?” replies Kinner.
“You are… Very ‘influential’…” speaks Windor.
“Well… As a Bard… Especially being a Drow… I find it helpful,” replies Kinner.
“Yes… I imagine you do,” spoke Windor, who then found Ren’s eyes.
Ren’s Tiefling eyes, which are black, seem somehow to go blacker.
“You keep… Pleasant company,” speaks Windor.
Kinner looks at his comrades,”Yes… I do.”
“However… I invite you to travel with us for a while… Your fiddle would be a welcome accompaniment… As would your ‘conversation’…” finishes Windor.
With this Zahn looked at Kinner, who did not look back at him.
“No… I can’t… But I thank you,” replied Kinner.
Zahn looked at Tor-Atimus, who seems as pleased as he.
“Very well… Then we wish you well in your journey,” spoke Windor, who then looked over at Chi, “May you find what you seek.”
This sent a chill down Chi’s back.
Windor then returned to the wagon, and the Gypsies quickly gathered their camp, and were gone…
…into the night, which they preferred.
The next day, Day 6 of Zahns Party’s journey, a group of 6 riders approached…
“Barbarians,” spoke Stigus.
Zahn raised his arm, halting the Party, then looked over at Tor-Atimus.
“Perhaps you, me and Stigus should ride to meet them,” spoke Tor-Atimus.
Zahn nodded, and the two of them road past Stigus, gesturing her to accompany them.
Ate Leader apparent was a most robust specimen, with shoulder length sandy blond hair…
Zahn halted his horse some 15 feet from the Barbarians who didn’t seem all that concerned about the Party.
“What business have you in Drudgek,” spoke the Leader.
“I am Zahn, of the Order of Apollo…”
The Barbarians look at one another.
“We do not serve Apollo,” replied the Leader.
“I only request that I may speak to your Leader, Nosia,” spoke Zahn respectfully.
The Barbarian Leader paused, then nodded, “We shall take you to him.”
“It’s a days journey,” the Barbarian Leader concluded.
Zahn’s Party followed the 6 Barbarians towards Dudgek, and when night fell, he let them stand guard, as they seemed to prefer it.
The following morning they continued their journey until they reached a large village surrounding a large, black stone Keep.
It was well protected, and the Barbarian Guards looked the Party over with a dash of pessimism in their gazes.
The blond Barbarian who brought them here, left his men outside the Keep, and escorted the Party inside.
Finally they reached a great hall, “He’s in there,” spoke the blond Barbarian, he then turned, and walked away.
Inside the great pillared Hall, there were 8 what looked to be ‘Elite’ Barbarian Guards… One standing before each pillar.
At the end of the Hall, sat a strong looking, black haired Barbarian, on what looked almost to be a throne.
He drank from a silver chalice, and had two woman slaves on chains, each attached to one of his throne arms.
This did not sit well with Stigus.
Zahn and his Party came to a halt some 30 feet before the Barbarian Leader.
Zahn bowed slightly, “Greetings Noria.”
Noria, who was very handsome, eyes sparkled a dark, almost black, blue.
He recognized the yellow sun medallion around Zahn’s neck immediately.
“Cleric of Apollo… What brings you to Drudgek,” he spoke.
“Galdur, we feel, is in need of Apollo’s light, and guidance…” responded Zahn.
“I see…” replied Noria grimly.
“Well… Uthgar is our God, and we are not shopping for another, I bid you ado,” he spoke, then gestured for the Guards to escort them away.
Stigus did not move, “Who are you to treat your woman so.”
Zahn did not interfere, nor did Tor-Atimus, who seemed enthralled by her strength.
Noria smiled, “These two are slaves… Captured from an enemy… They are not our people,’ he explained, seemingly amused.
“I will fight for their release,” she spoke.
With this Noria smiled, then pulled a large axe off his back, and struck the chains of each of the slave girls.
“They are yours to do with as you please,” he spoke.
With this the girls both ran out of the Hall.
Tor-Atimus nodded at Noria, and the Party then left.
Noria never took his eyes off the Dragonborn Stigus.
